Description

This 1979 Bally Star Trek Pinball has received a full strip down, frame off restoration, and is now ready to go to a new home.

To understand the process this went through one can scroll back through the “Restoration Blog” title found on the homepage, to the very start, the strip down process.

The new CPR Legacy Silkscreened “Gold” playfield has been SIGNED BY THE CAPTAIN HIMSELF, WILLIAM SHATNER!.

His signature can be found in the left & right outlanes. WILLIAM on the left side, and SHATNER, on the right.

His signature was secured back in 2015 while he was in Saskatoon at Fan Expo (see photo gallery)

After the balance of the playfield was masked off, his signature was cleared (3-passes) so it cannot be mistakenly cleaned off

This playfield has the two Classic Playfield Reproductions Nacelle Enterprise engine mod inserts added, and the custom Xpin Engine lamp driver board installed, providing a circular motion, and pulsing effect, of engine operation, never before offered. (see attached photos)

The new playfield plastics, are also a Silkscreened Legacy Set.

What is a Silkscreened Legacy Set / Playfield?  In the past all CPR product was silkscreened, a very labor, and time consuming process, as each ink color is laid down one at a time, then placed on racks to dry.

To remain price competitive, sadly, this process had to be abandoned, as other suppliers were using “direct ink” (which is just a huge cnc like printer) and all colors can be laid down in 1-pass.

What was lost!  Silkscreen ink offered a huge variety of colors, with much richer pigmentation, making for stark contrasts between colors, and much richer colors overall; especially noticeable in the very bright colors such as the yellow, red, orange, and deep blue found on this Star Trek table. Other notable colors that have been lost would be the lime green found in Tales from the Crypt, and the hot pink found on Rollergames.

The cabinet has been fully sanded back to wood, restored, and re-painted (not decaled), then cleared coated (6-passes)

All cabinet, playfield, and solenoid assemblies have been bead blasted, and powder coated in a gloss micro metallic midnight black.

All solenoid assemblies have been rebuilt.

All new playfield posts, custom drop targets, lane guides, and full LED lighting.

Operating off a new Alltek MPU, powered by a fully restored upgraded transformer / rectifier system.

The player score displays have been changed to new LED.

Installed are green, but these could be changed to either Orange, Blue, Red, or White, if you like.

But, the cornerstone of this restoration is the new sound board purchased from “Geeteoh Electronics” offering full original series soundtrack, with over 30 callouts from the TV show.

On the playfield you will see some changes have been made, such as the wooden rails changed to a deep blue.

The backglass is new.

If you are a Star Trek Collector, you will be hard pressed to find a another 1979 Bally in showroom shine collector quality condition.

Note: Final coindoor configuration has the Free Play inserts.
